Country and western music

Thinking back, I remember when country western music wasn't cool. And then it happened ...

Country And Western Music Is Here To Stay

Is Country And Western Music Cool?

One thing about country western music, the lines of attraction and preference are clearly divided: people can tell you (and will tell you) they either love it or hate it.

Small word wars are waged across the miles over different types of music. Tears are shed (for, against, and because of) this classic art.

Let's face it. Everyone has their opinion when it comes to types of music. We start forming likes and dislikes from a very early age. Some of our musical preferences are formed based on our own experiences and others we form based on what we hear from the people around us.

What Type Music Did Your Mama Listen To?

Children readily pick up what the adults around them are saying. This is why most family members belong to the same political party and practice the same religion; it is what they grew up with. A great deal of what we value comes from what we were exposed to as children.

At times we find that we change our opinion on something once we have experienced it for ourselves because the opinion was based on what we were taught rather than from personal experience.

A Quiet Man

In the family I grew up in my father liked to have things quiet. He worked very hard at his job and running a farm so when he sat down for the evening he did not like a great deal of noise or activity going on around him. We could play the TV low or he would put on albums of classical music.

It was the only music he would listen to. If we had the radio on and country western music or rock and roll would come on he would tell us to turn it off.

He Did Not Get The Allure Of Country Western Music

My dad simply did not understand rock and roll and he thought country western music was not up to par. I was exposed to rock and roll through my friends, radio and dances and like it. I did not listen to country western music at all.

I grew up learning my Dad's likes and dislikes, including his musical preference. Then I started a dating a young man in college that listened to country western music all the time. He liked the beat of the music and the stories that most of the songs told.

Country And Western Music Finally Made A Hit With Me

I really liked him so when we started dating I put up with the music and tuned it out. We then went to a large outdoor concert that featured several of the hottest country western bands.

From that point on I was hooked. I found that I also liked the stories the songs told and the music was fun to dance to. At the outdoor concert event I met several of my boyfriend’s friends. They taught me how to line dance to some of the songs.

There Is Musical Talent Everywhere But I Still Hold A Special Place For Country Western Music

After college I moved to another city and so I lost touch with my boyfriend. Eventually I married my present husband and we are raising our family. I still listen to all kinds of music, but every time I hear country western music I think back to that concert and how I came to appreciate it.

Teach Your Children Well

I try to let my children experience many different things growing up and try not to influence their opinions. Do you?
