Guitar is Sometimes More Than
Just a Passing
Hobby
When I met
my husband I was nineteen years
old, and he had been playing
guitar for a long time before I
met him. He was already very
good, and this was something that
he loved to do.
He loved it
so much that it became a part of
who he is and how he lives his
life. There is something magical
that happens when he plays and I
don’t know what I would do
if that part of him were to go
away.
There are
many that think being with a
musician is something that would
be fun, but it’s a lifestyle
that many are simply not ready
for.
I am not
saying that I am a special breed,
but I am a very understanding
woman. Playing guitar is
something that my husband will do
when he can, and it often means
that I have to plan my life
around when he has shows, must
practice, or when he can get into
the recording studio.
Some think
being with someone who spends a
lot of time playing guitar in a
band is glamorous, but they have
no idea what it is really like.
Your life will never be normal in
many ways. I have always wanted
an unconventional life, so it
works well for me, even though
there are moments of frustration
that I have to deal
with.

who play the guitar must
spend a lot of time away
on weekends.
That
makes planning anything
special for weekends
very hard to do.
Practice is often on
weekdays, so you will
end up spending a lot of
time missing your
husband (or your
wife).

Musicians
are usually very dedicated. Those
that aren’t usually quit in
their twenties. Those that go
past that age and are still doing
all they can to still play guitar
are the ones that will do it for
the rest of their lives.
If you are
not prepared to deal with these
sorts of problems for the rest of
your life, this might not be
something you want to
start.
It is very
easy for me to understand why
being a guitar player means so
much to my husband, and that is
probably because we met so young
and it is the only life I have
known.
If you meet
someone who plays guitar much
later in life you may not be able
to adjust to the lifestyle.
There is so
much more to this type of life,
and it is not suited for
everyone. You can compare it to
someone who goes on endless
hunting trips, or must travel for
work.
Life will
not be about coming home at five
after work and being home all
weekend. Think hard before
getting in too far, and remember
that there is something special
about men who love playing
guitar, but a life with them may
not be what you want. Live life
to the fullest but always be
aware of the ride you're in
for.
