My Love Affair With Rock n Roll Music
My father always loved Rock n Roll Music, and this was something he passed on to his son. I was exposed to such bands as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Doors and so on from a very early age. It was these experiences that started a love affair with the style that remains in place to this date.
When I was a little kid, my father would play classic Rock n Roll music in our house whenever he had a chance. My mother used to get onto him about playing it too loud, but my father would always tell her that it was supposed to be loud. He showed us some of the greatest bands of all time and encouraged us to foster a love for the music as well. My brother and sister and I all did, even if we did take a little bit of a different route.
From the love of Rock n Roll music, I started to really like heavy metal, and bought everything that bands like Metallica, Pantera and Guns n’ Roses put out. I developed a love affair with those hard pounding chords, and it could always be heard coming from our bedroom, unless, of course, my brother got to the stereo first. While he certainly liked heavy metal, as well he was also a big fan of the then-burgeoning hip hop scene and would put on such bands as the Beastie Boys and Run DMC. My sister, not surprisingly, liked a lot of the female acts, and would play such bands as No Doubt and Veruca Salt whenever possible.
Rock n Roll music will always hold a very special place in my heart, because I love it and because of all the great memories it brings back. It could always be heard in our house in some form growing up, and I suspect that in my brother and sister’s households, it is the same way. I know it is in mine!
