Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about band merchandise? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed music experts with special knowledge about music paraphernalia.

How can you put a limit on learning more about music stuff? The next section may contain that one little bit of wisdom about music merchandise you may not have already known.

Marketing a music group - Is it just about the music? Or, is there more?

Marketing a band isn't just about the music. A lot of money is made on band merchandise, as fans want to surround themselves with their favorite artist.

Some teenage bedrooms are shrines to the rock stars of the day. The walls are covered in posters, scrapbooks are full of signed photographs and ticket stubs and coffee is drunk from a mug bearing the faces of the chosen ones.

One of the first artists to be sold in such a way was the Beatles. Their images were everywhere, on lunch boxes, jigsaws and there were little action figures of them, playing their instruments.

Beatle wigs were popular too with the trademark floppy, fringe. This kind of memorabilia is sought after at conventions and other gatherings of fans. Their management was trying things out for the first time.

Today, it is a slick business activity and official and unauthorized items are bought. Almost every gig attended offers the chance to buy band merchandise such as tee shirts, patches and button badges.

This is the age of the music video and these are often collected together on a single DVD for sale. Other DVDs show the band in live performance. Documentary DVDs are good sellers too.

Illegal Band Products

There is a flood of illegal products, often footage that has been spliced together with little thought for the visual or sound quality. This sort of band merchandise doesn't show the band at their best and management makes every attempt to stop the bootleggers from operating.

Wearing band clothing etc. is like a badge of honor, especially for fans of underground or cult performers. It's a way of recognizing each other and declaring their devotion to the world.

Older bands, that are no more, have popular band merchandise too as well as current acts. Classic bands such as Led Zeppelin, the Doors or Queen still sell T-shirts, posters and calendars. Southern bands, like Lyrnrd Skynrd and Guns 'n' Roses put their logos on belt buckles. Pop acts, such as boy bands, tend to appear in books rather than clothing.

The items for sale have to be in keeping with the image of the band. Westlife, for instance, are not likely to appear on a black tee shirt with a skull and crossbones! Equally, Marilyn Manson will probably never grace a lunch box. The future of band merchandise is assured because there is so much profit involved.

Now that wasn't hard at all, was it? And you hare learned a wealth of knowledge, just from taking some time to study what a music expert has to say about band merchandise.
