A New
Perspective on Music Colleges
Regarding
Music Schools
When most people
think of music schools, they have a pretty
traditional image of a school of
performing arts. They think of a very
classical place where you specialize in
several instruments, studying music theory
and training with some professors who are
professional musicians
themselves.
Music Colleges
Have Much More to Offer
In fact, music
colleges are much more diverse than that.
It is true that there are a lot of schools
that fit into that classical view of the
music college. Nevertheless, almost every
aspect of the music industry has an
educational program behind it.
Whether you are a
virtuoso longing to go to an accredited
College of music, or a tech geek who wants
to spend your career as a recording
technician, there is probably a music
college for you.

My Bout
with Music Colleges
I did not
originally set out wanting to go
to a music college. I wanted a
more classical liberal arts
education.
In my
family, artistic skill is highly
praised.
|
I knew that I should
take a few classes in music while I was
there, but I didn't intend to make it my
specialization.
Nonetheless, the
music colleges program was extremely good.
Sometimes you set out knowing what you
want to do, but other times you meet that
one professor who shows you the perfect
career path through their own passion.
The piano teacher I
had there had sent several people on to
music colleges by showing them the beauty
of the instrument. I was one more
victory.
Part Time or Full
Time School of Music ?
Taking music courses
in a university is one thing, but going to
full-time music colleges is quite another.
My first semester there, I almost had a
breakdown.
This might sound
like an overstatement to you, but it was
really true. Music colleges are tough
places, where some of the best musicians
in the country go for advanced training. I
had good academic performance, and I had
decent musical skills, but inside that
music college I was nothing.
But, there are no
schools better than music colleges to
quickly master your musical art. Being
surrounded by that many brilliant people
really pushes you to push yourself.
If I hadn't gone to
the music school, I probably never would
have really perfected or honed my craft.
Going to music colleges, however, forced
me to work as hard as I could just to keep
up with people.
On Becoming a
Serious Musician
If you want to be a
serious musician and not just to pursue it
as a hobby, this is the only way to
accomplish it. Now, go online or your
local college and pick up some brochures.
Time is fleeting!
